Week 10 :)

It is week ten already! Wow, time goes by so fast! Anyways, during my time in Debate class, I learned many new ways to express my feelings. Out of all the activities I've done in these weeks, my favorite is when we debated on the media ratings for I believed I did a pretty good job on it. :] Also, i enjoyed doing my informative speech where compared to my persuasive speech, it was way better. However, I did not really enjoy listening to the news in the early morning, but the benefit of it is that I started to read more articles on the newspaper and the news online to find out more interesting things that happen around the world. So, I can't wait for any future chances to debate! Have a nice year everyone!

WEEK 9:

During this semester, I really enjoyed listening as well as participating in debates. It helped improve my listening and speaking skills a lot. A lot of things were humorous during the debates and the subjects were sometimes difficult, but they were all very interesting. Everyone expressed a lot of interesting points and ideas which made the class enjoyable. On the other hand however, I didn't find the formal speeches as fun as debating because I didnt really have enough ideas that interested me.

My favorite activity

My favorite activity is when we debate with each other because everyone is laughing and we all have fun while we debate. There is no fighting at all when people lose, so that is my favorite activity. My least favorite activity is nothing because all the activity i did was really fun. You are a good teacher Miss Krissy and you made it a lot of fun for me, so thank you!

Make sure you research because we will debate on Friday.

For your blog, please write about your favorite activity/debate of this semester. Tell me what made it enjoyable, or the various aspects you liked about it. Conversely, tell me your least favorite also.

Good luck

Week 9 :) contd.

Pictures on my topic and the Middle east.

New Wave of Iranians Seek U.S. Studies

Iranians are starting to seek U.S studies because they believe that the U.S has superior schools and generous research finances. They think that their education would put them in the best jobs when they return home. Personally, I think that they are right to come to America to learn more. America is a free country and English is a language that is known internationally.

Week 9 :)

I read an rticle online about a car bomb in Iraq's second larget ciry, Barsa, last Saturday. It said that the car bomb on a fuel tank was the worst attack in like five month since Iraq voted for their new government. It mentioned in the article taht fifty people were injured about eight people were killed. Also, an American soldier was also killed that day where people believed that there might be violence between the two countries on this matter as the American military reduces the number of its troops to 50,000 from a bigger number before. This is what the article is aminly about. I think this article is interesting because It talkes about some current news between American and Iraq.
:D

Week 9: Troops Not Ready to Leave Iraq

Iraq is just not ready to have the US force to leave their country yet. They plan on having them stay until 2020 when Iraq is finally "Ready." President Obama thinks the US force is teaching the Iraqis well and is taking the soldiers out by the end of 2011. Iraq is actually using the US. They need us for 9 more years than we planned and it is better to take our troops out for other things at hand. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-10947918

week 9

an israeli man was recenlty charged of serial stabbings. the man's name is elias abuelazam. he is accused of killing 5 black men in 3 different states. because the victims were mostly black, the police suspect that the reason for the stabbings were racist. racism in the world is becoming too serious in this case, leading to violent stabbings. elias had attacked 16 people and 5 died.

President of Pakistan tries to ease the anger about the flood

President Zardari recently met with victims of the catastrophic flooding in Sukkur in the Sindh province. He promises that he will rebuild homes. Unfortunately, some people say that this is too little, too late, and there are still people angry about the fact that he did not cut short his European tour to deal with the crisis. Even with a "shipload" of us marines and helicopters, the floods have already affected 14 million people while leaving 1,600 people dead......at least. While visiting the victims the president distributed foods and relief goods among the families while trying to reassure them that the government was ready to improve the situation as soon as possible. Yet critics say the if he IS the president of Pakistan then he should act like it. Osama Sadoon Memon said that President Zardari should have been there weeks ago rather than sitting in luxurious hotels......enjoying cocktails. BBC NEWS

pakistan flood worsning

The flood in Pakistan is worse than the Haiti earthquake and the tsunami in Asia. The US nations estimate the the Pakistan flood has left over 1,600 people dead. the worst flood ever in Pakistan had affected over 1,500,000 people. The dire situation in Pakistan is deteriorating and causing land-slides and killing hundreds of people.

Pakistan Flood Worsens

The flood in Pakistan has worsened. Aids just are not coming in fast enough. So far, at least 1600 people died in the flood. Below are the aid contributions.

Twin Cities terror indicaments

Yesterday's news that eight people would be charged in connection with the disappearance of young Somali men from the Twin Cities put the long-running story back in the national spotlight.

Week 9

Today, an early morning explosion happened in Sadiya. Sadiya is around 60 miles north-east from Baquba, Diyala's capital. Eight Iraqi soldiers were killed when a house that they were going to raid blew up. Officials say that a gunman opened fire from a house near the Iraqi checkpoint. The soldiers surrounded the house and it blew up, killing eight of them. This event happened a day after six people were killed in attacks across the country including policemen. There has been a lot of violence happening the past few weeks. In Iraq, July has been the most deadliest month since 2008.
Thanks for reading! I'm coming back for one more class (in case you didn't notice) (:

Monday, August 9, 2010

The relief efforts for the flood in Pakistan are poor due to the loss of roads and railways. Occasionally, helicopters can deliver food, but officials use donkeys most of the time. Enraged survivors physically attack government officials and soldiers. AT least 1600 people are dead in the worst deluge in 80 years.

Week 9 Prompt

Hi Guys,

Almost done! This week I want you to blog about the news again, but pick a story that is directly related to the Middle East. This will require a little research to understand the situation and be able to explain it. Good luck guys!

week 8

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has finally ceased on July 15. BP had finally successfully cemented the leak through a process of Static Kill. The work of cleaning out the oil can now proceed. A majority of the oil have been already burned off or evaporated. Unfortunately 4.9 million barrels had leaked out to sea and we've only recovered 800,000 barrels. President Obama however, is pleased with the results.

Week 7 (or 8) :)

I went onto BBC News and I saw this very cool article on the Health section about fit hearts can slow the brain aging. This article is about the Boston University team observing that the brain shrinks as it ages, so people should have a fit body and fit heart to decrease the rate of brain failure. They also did many different kinds of experiment and found out that lower volume of blood pumping from heart might cause reduce flow to the brain, where it will not have a lot of energy, oxygen, and nutrients, but the brain cells need these for its health. I think this is quite important of us, espically in the US because we are like the most obesed country in the world and not a lot of our hearts is very good. This article reminds us that we should eat and be healther to make our heart stronger, so our brain will last longer. Without a strong brain, we cannot learn a lot or be very smart. :D
Thank you for listening, ans sorry for a later post of this blog :)

Prop 8

Proposition 8 which calls for marriage to only be held between an man and a woman has been overturned in California. A judge recently decided it and people were celebrating in West Hollywood while others protested against it.

Week 8: Atomic Bomb

On August 6, 1945, Hiroshima was bombed by the US. Now after 65 years after the bombing, the US has shown up at their 65th anniversary. This is something America should be proud of since we almost destroyed that city. An ambassador of the US is visiting Japan and other nations are too. It is important for the US to visit Japan for its anniversary. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-10888571 After what we did to Japan...we should visit to celebrate.

BBC News - "Life's not fair"

It's true that "life's not fair" however life is generally unfair. It's either do something or get used to it. I personally think that the word "fair" shouldn't be used in an arguement. What is "fair"? What isn't? The way people think that are "fair" might not be the same as others. In an arguement, to me, it's considered cheating. The five year old in the link keeps responding to her mother saying "Thats not fair". When hearing the phrase "that's not fair" or "you're not being fair" can easily make a person feel guilty because of the way the other person feels. In addition, some might respond immediatly thinking that of course "life's not fair". "Fair" is similar to balance. If one person gains more than the other person then the balance tips over to that person making the other feel that it isn't fair. It's difficult to make things fair with others because of their needs and feelings. I consider this article to be important because once I read this, I've changed my veiw of the word "fair". I also realize that the phrases that consider life being unfair is unacceptable in an arguement. It's useless because everyone knows that life can't always be fair.

Gun Rampage in Connecticut

A worker at Connecticut Beer Distributor killed 9 people and at least wounded to 2 people. The shooting was at Hardford Disruptor in the morning while the workers were changing shifts. The person name was Omar Thorton which was 34 years old. I think this started because the gunner was caught stealing from the company, so he was to be sacked. The 2 people who got injured was said to live because they were immediately sent to a hospital for check up.

week 8

I am talking about poachers in madagascar. they arrive at villages near the forests and give them money/rice in exchange for rare rosewood trees. This wouldn't have happened as tourists always come to these villages and the villagers get plenty of money. But the change of goverment scared away most tourists. Rosewood trees take 100 years to reach maturity and cutting this down is very unsustainable. In 2009, 100,000 of these trees were cut down. This is a huge number. I really hope that poachers would stop influenecing the local villagers and that people would stop cutting down trees.

BP pumps cement into damaged Gulf of Mexico oil well

I think BP is doing the right thing by pumping cement into the damaged oil well. I think it is important because they are trying to give an effort to stop the oil spill and that is good.

Israel-Lebanon border clash kills five people

On August 3, three Lebanese soldiers and an Israeli officer were killed in the first serious border clash since Israel's 2006 conflict with Lebanon's Hezbollah. The Lebanese army says Israeli soldiers crossed the border to uproot a tree which was blocking their view near the Lebanese village of Adaysseh. A Lebanese army confirmed that they fired warning shots and that Israel responded with fire from artillery positions and helicopters. The army also confirmed that 3 solders were killed and 4 were wounded. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-10851692Map locator

Week 8

Today, on BBC News, the FBI claims that Wikipedia has used the FBI's official seal without permission. The FBI said that, "unauthorized reproduction of the FBI seal was prohibited by US law". The issue was on Wikipedia's FBI entry which includes information about the FBI and a picture of their seal. The seal can be view in four different sizes. A lot of people are wondering why the FBI has only confronted Wikipedia and not the many other websites that have published their seal without permission.

Ms. Krissy

week 6

My topic is going to be having lockers in elementary school. I think I would like to do this topic because I strongly agree with having lockers in elementary school and therefore I could think up multiple reasons. For example, if kids had to carry heavy backpacks around the whole school campus, for almost around six years, they would be hunchbacks. That's one reason why I think schools should install lockers in elemetary schools.

Parents not hitting kids

I think that Parents should not hit their kids because kids do nothing really bad just to get hit by their parent. Parents should just yell and give the kids chances for the kid, but their is no reason to hit the kid. I believe that all people have rights like kid does, but not much as the parent, but that does not give any reason for the parent to hurt the kid. No parents should have rights to hit kids just because of these reasons i just told, so parents shouldn't hurt the kid.

sex eduation mandatory

Education about sex and birth control is mandatory in high school because of overflowing population. It shows students the consequences of having a child before marrige and at a young age. It can teach students that the consequences of having a child at a younger age can cause trouble for the parents. Since the parents are still in their teens, the child could cause a distruption in the parents' education and relationship. Teenage parents have no money and will have to ask parents for help. Sex education is about sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction and more.

In this website, it shows a list of places where they teach sex education.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_education

Week 5: Prohibit Parents From Using Punishment???

Everyone should so NOT prohibit parents from using punishments. Why should we ban parents from using punishments that include physical contact??? If parents didn't use physical contact punishment, then the kids will never be able to learn. It wouldn't really cement into the kids' minds. Instead of physical contact, the parent would use verbal which doesn't really do anything.
+ =
= Because no effect

1. Point: Kids won't argue against parents. Argument: Just verbal= kids don't care Evidence: Kids are scared that they will get hit.

2. Point: Kids get on parents nerves Argument: Parents need a way to get kids to quiet down. Evidence: Keep bothering parents with stupid requests.

3. Point: Makes kids obey their MIGHTY RULER Argument: If a reminder is there, before kid talks to parents, make sure it isn't stupid. Evidence: Sinks in that if don't obey, won't have gentle parents (sometimes)

Week 5 :)

There are many different rights for young minors under the age of eighteen. However, minors should not have the access to birth control without their parents consent. Young teenagers and children should not go behind their parents back on having birth controls for it will ruined their own lives without actually knowing, create a bad image for themselves and their parents, and being a liar to the closets people around themselves. For example, many young teenagers does not know the consequences on what will happen after they get birth control, but for the fact that “everyone” has birth controls. This is untrue because not everyone has them and for the people who do have birth controls most likely already talked with their parents or an adult for the consequences. If the young teens did not talk with their parents about this matter, then they might make very stupid mistakes which will destroy their lives forever. Also, this will create a bad image with people who found out that this young minor has birth controls where their parents does not know any of it! People will think this child is irresponsible and could not be trusted by people for they were dishonest with their own parents. This also brought the topic to the fact that it will ruin the image a person have. Since they can lie to their closet parents, so why can they not hide other important things from them? The parents might suspect them doing drugs or other bad habits because the child lost the trustful bond already. In other words, young minors (or in my opinion, all ages) should not lie to their parents or hide anything from them, especially on birth controls.

Birth Pills

I think that minors should not be allowed to get birth pills without their parent's consent because it can be very dangerous and because it brings distrust in a relationship between parents and daughter. First of all, is if teenagers would be allowed to get these pills, they would have to be very careful. Some of the pills that they could get a hold of might not even be birth pills, or may not even be effective. Parents know what is best for their kids. With their parent's consent, it would be a lot safer than without a parent's permission. next, it will cause distrust in a relationship. Teenagers would be hiding secrets from their parents and will encourage them to do more things behind their parent's back. If their parents know, they would trust their child more because she asked for permission. Lastly, minors should get permission from their parents or guardians because some teenagers have know idea what they are getting themselves into. Some schools provide sexual education, but a lot don't. It might hurt the teen both mentally and physically. They might regret it when they are older. As you can see, I think that minors should not be able to get birth pills without their parent's consent.

Week 5 hw:

I strongly believe that it is mandatory to teach about sexual education. Right now, there are children in middle school who have turned into fathers or mothers. Furthermore, some of the teenagers have acquired HIV or std's through sexual activity. These teenagers who become parents or victims to diseases passed through sexual activity would have had a better future without the temptations of going into sexual activity. So I have concluded that if these children were taught about the consequences of sexual activity they, at the very least, will have an awareness of the dangers and risks.
This kind of education might help kids understand and lead them to a successful career in later life. Also, by showing actual pictures of the kinds of diseases will help imbed the knowledge in their brains. And this is why I think that it should be mandatory to teach about sexual education at schools.

Child Abuse

Parents should not be allowed to hit their kids. It is also known as child abuse. Abuse when a child can cause stress and harm the child's internal organs and feelings. Hitting, or sexually abusing a kid is wrong...the kid has rights to neglect the parent's doings. http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/police/community/abuse.html This site tells about abuse to children.
Three arguments are:
1. Parents raised there kids to love them and care for them...the kids shouldn't be punching bags or dolls to express your feelings to. It is wrong.
2.Hitting is bad...like the school says, "keep your hands off one another."
3. Abuse on kids affect their lives at school and everywhere. Every child can be in stress...this will cause problems to schools and other kids.

It will be all the parent's fault if he or she is hurt and the cops and othe people find out.

Parent really shouldn't hit their kids.

I believe think parents really shouldn't hit their kids. I consider it child abuse even. It can teach kids bad things and it will hurt them, both mentally and physically. The websites below hold reasons why parents shouldn't hit children. http://www.naturalchild.org/jan_hunt/tenreasons.html
http://www.slate.com/id/2200450 Besides, what kids want to get hit. It hurts. So, I believe that hitting children is wrong and hurt them, on the inside and outside. I t should be illegal because well, I would consider it child abuse. And they will look like this...

the Dangers of physical abuse

Parents should be prohibited from using physical contact as their punishment to their children or child because after a beating, the child might think that the world is a bad place and that nothing is ever good. Then the child will use the type of physicallity that the parents do on them to other students. Also, the child might show contempt toward the parents. We want a peaceful world don't we? Well you can't have peace if you have physical parents.

Week 5 Prompt

I think that parents shouldn't hit their children. This can cause the child to have lower self esteem and causing the parent to overstress themselves. The child might have some serious injuries if the parent couldn't control him/her self. Also the child may run away from the house because the parents were too harsh to the child. The child may even suicide or may become violent. Older children may try drugs or alcohol.
Some links are
http://helpguide.org/mental/child_abuse_physical_emotional_sexual_neglect.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_abuse

Birth Pills

I think that minors shouldn't be aloud to use birth pills without parents permission. Because, since birth pills aren''t 100% effective then there might be unplanned pregnancy which might lead to many difficult choices for a young teenage girl to deal with, without a parent or guardian. Also, since a young teenager might not always know whats best for them they might need parent to help them make the right decision like this one. Additionally, it would be bad to hid these things from a parent. It would also be bad for there relationship and cause them to be more distant. (((http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/birthcontrolandcontraception/207844.html)))

No Physical Punishment from Parents

To me, Parents should not be able to use physical contact on their children. One reason is that kids see their parents as role models and the children might do that to their own children when they grow up. Another reason is that children represent their parents. What this means is that children are like an image of how well they parents parented them. My third and final reason is that good parents will not even dare hit their child but they would just give them a non physical punishment where on the other hand, bad parents will just hit their child.

Monday, July 19, 2010

I think that parents should be prohibitted from using punishments that involve physical contact.
Three aruguments are-
  • kids may resent their parents for that kind of treatment
  • the parents are abusing their child
  • it is wrong to hit people

Week 5 Prompt

Hi guys!

All of the topics this week have to do with young people. For your blog posting pick one, do some research, write out a paragraph introduction and then put 3 arguments using the Lising model.

-Minors should have access to birth control without their parents consent.
-Sex education should be mandatory.
-Parents should be prohibited from using punishment that includes physical contact.

Good luck!

Week 4 >8D

i think that china should allow Tibet to break away and form their own country. What would you feel like if you had your own country with your own government but without a big population and a good enough military defense system, a neighboring country decides to take over and push out your own government? and for years, the Dalai Lama, former ruler of tibet hasn't been able to return to his home country. tibet had its own culture and now its gone replaced by a alien culture. the people of tibet dont deserve this. just because a dictator wants to expand territories doesnt mean he can attack a well civilized country. i believe that this will cause public outrage anywhere.

Tibetans of China

Tibetans are Buddhist people who wants to declare independence from China. However, China would not allow this. This is because China is too stubborn to give Tibetans independence. To put this in another words, think of China as a farmer and the Tibetans as the neighbors to China. If you were China and you were asked by the Tibetans to give them a piece of your land, would you do it? Of course not! It is China's land, China had it first, and they can't just give thier land to the Tibetans willingly.

Week 4 :)

There are many different opinions on whether China should let Tibetans be themselves or include them as part of China. I believe that although Tibetans should have the freedom to be themselves, they should also be part of China. First of all, the Tibetan has been with China for more than hundreds of years. With all the history with China, and the bonds between both cultures, it would not be a very good idea to say that the Tibetans should have their own "beliefs" and "ideas" for it is also China's. Another reason is that it is always better to be united than to be separated. If Tibetan people are part of China, then they can have the protection and help from a more powerful country then their own small region of land. Besides that, Tibet is a very important part of Chinese history. Because it is a very important part of the Chinese culture, it is not fair to say that China should give away their cultures. I understand why the Tibetans wanted to set up their own country, but as for now, I believe it is better to be united and share a bond with China. These are some of the reasons why I believe Tibetans should be considered as part of China.

Tibetans in China

It's early evening in Litang, a normally bustling city of some 50,000 in the far west of China's Sichuan province. On a normal day, the streets would be crowded with cars, bicycles, throngs of shoppers, even the odd yak. But today there is an eerie silence, with only the occasional resident hurrying home, eyes to the ground. The shops are all shuttered and the only vehicles on the roads are prowling police cars whose blue and red lights flash in the gathering dusk. Litang, 90% of whose population is ethnically Tibetan, is a city under siege.

TIBETIANS in CHINA

I think that China should let Tibet be there own country instead of arguing about what happened many years ago. The Chinese should let go of what happened and be satisfied with what they have now which i think is allot. Also, it would be rude to get rid of religious freedom because i believe that everyone has the freedom to believe what they believe. Additionally, i think that the solution to this problem is for the Chinese to leave the Tibetians alone:)(http://asianhistory.about.com/od/china/a/TibetandChina_3.htm)

Week 4 Prompt

China should let the Tibetans be who they want to be instead of being greedy and getting their small piece of land back. They should share the world with them and they are already the richest country in the world. They don't need that land. They should share the land with others. Here is a link of more about the Tibetans

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1723249,00.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Tibet

week 4

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1723249,00.html ...China had always wanted Tibet as part of China's land. I believe this is wrong for China to have Tibet's land since tibet is now a country itself. What if we have Mexico part of the U.S.? There will be revolts...and there will be wars and conflict...who wants that? Now because of China's history, after the earthquake, the Tibetans don't trust China anymore. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/world/asia/18quake.html

Tibetans in China

The conflict with the Tibetans and the Chinese government has been one of the most longest conflicts in the world and is nowhere near a resolution. The reason why this issue has been going on for a long time is because the Chinese government has different beliefs from the Tibetans. Right now, China wants their land that they marked as their territory many years ago. Maybe China should just let go of it because the Tibetans live there now. However, I do think that Tibetan and China should compromise over the land and sort out their differences. All China wants is what they reightfully claimed theirs and the Tibetans should give it to them and maybe get something in it for themselves.

Week #4: Tibetans in China

Like every other country, China likes imperialism. China just wants more land or at least the Tibet land for now. And they should be able to keep it. It's been 7 centuries since Tibet was an independent government for a century. It's been a long time since then. Between 1912-1951, Tibet was independent, but...China summoned Tibetan delegation to sign a treaty. So China should rightfully control Tibet.

The main solution is that Tibet should not fight to be independent. Right now, China is the richest and most powerful country in the world. If Tibet really wanted to be more independent, they need to rise up to the world like China, but that would be impossible.
