I think government officials should be allowed to publicly express their personal thoughts, feelings, etc. Even if their ideas are negative or against government ideas, I think that if they express their thoughts it will widen other people's views on that subject. Expressing their ideas openly can help civilians build confidence in their ideas. Seeing someone with such authority speak their thoughts helps civilians to be more open about sharing their own ideas. Also, why should government officials be blamed for expressing their thoughts? To this day, people are still allowed to protest for the Ku Klux Klan in public. It's not against the law for them to protest against African-Americans so why should it be wrong for government officials to express their thoughts? Please comment and thanks for reading!

  1. Karen,
What about high ranking officials? Do you think its ok for the vice president to openly be critical of the president? What about the head of the army being critical of the military's policies? Should people like General MacCrystal lose their jobs for making fun of the President and VP to the media?

  3. Hey Karen! I completely agree with you on this one. Government offials shouldn't hide what they truly feel. Now that we know what General MacCrystal feels about the president, does it mean that if he still had his job, he would do it poorly? I agree that if government officials openly said what they felt, others would be more encouraged to do the same. I really like your post! :)

  4. To Ms. Krissy: I think do it's ok for the vice president to be openly critical of the president if he feels the need to. If he sees a problem then he's probably not he only one. Voicing his opinions would help others in being open with their minds too. Same with the military policies. I don't think General McCrystal should've been fired. I think he should've been given a warning. Criticism is fine but when it turns into jokes it's not serious anymore. Thank you for commenting!

    To Katherine: Thank you! :)
